Obituary of Guglielmo Veltri

Guglielmo Veltri, beloved husband of 57 years of the late Angela Arlia Veltri, passed away peacefully at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield on Monday, March 7, 2016, two days before his 99th birthday. Born in Belmonte, Calabria, Italy, on March 9, 1917, he was the son of the late Domenico and Giovanna Volturno Veltri. He was a resident of Montreal, Canada before moving to Bridgeport, where he resided for 48 years. Prior to his retirement, he provided 20 years of dedicated service to the former Bridgeport Machines company. Guglielmo was an avid gardener who took great pleasure in sharing the bounty of his garden with family, neighbors and friends. He enjoyed Yankees baseball games and reading the newspaper for the latest on current events, but his greatest fulfillment was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was so very proud of his family and found joy in all their achievements. A very devoted and generous man with a quick wit and infectious smile, Guglielmo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend who will be truly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his three loving children, son Dominic Veltri and his wife Catherine of Lower Gwynedd, PA, son Dr. Nicholas Veltri and his wife Karen of Southington, daughter JoAnne Veltri of Fairfield; five cherished grandchildren, Daniel and Richard Veltri of San Francisco, CA, Nicole and Mitchell Veltri of New Haven and Danielle Veltri of Tariffville; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Teresina and Thomas Marghella, Nicolina and Alfred Bossio; and eight nieces and nephews. Guglielmo was predeceased by a sister, Rosa Pate. The family would like to thank Guglielmo's extended family at the Jewish Home for their compassionate care during the past eight years. Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in St. Michael Chapel Mausoleum, Stratford. Calling hours will take place on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jewish Home for the Elderly, 175 Jefferson Street, Fairfield, CT 06825.
