Obituary of Charles P. Gensur

Charles P. Gensur, age 71, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of LaNell Costantini Gensur, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 in Norwalk Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born on November 1, 1944 in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Joseph and Julia Bruchansky Gensur. A lifelong Bridgeport resident and U. S. Air Force veteran, he worked as a Quality Control Supervisor at Walbro Automotive in Meriden. Charles was an avid fan of football, but his true passion was the "game of life." Ever true to his generous, giving, noble spirit, his constant concern for others, whether family, friends, or strangers, will continue to live on by the many lives he touched. Always quick with a joke, or more often a sarcastic jibe, his smile and boisterous, hearty laugh was incredibly contagious to those fortunate to be in the same room. He often entertained those he was surrounded with by his many misadventures from childhood, adulthood, military service, and parenthood. In his true story-teller fashion, the audience would roar with laughter as he simply smiled while a vibrant spark glimmered in his pale blue eyes. Though he never boasted of his duration of military service during the Vietnam War, his service, and actions, aided in many American soldiers to be rescued from behind enemy lines. Never considering himself to a hero of any sort, his humble heart brought out the hero in others. In addition to his wife of 49 years, survivors include two children, LaNell Corso and her husband James of Derby and Christopher Gensur of Bridgeport, three grandchildren, Holly, Anya and Michael, a great-granddaughter, Keely, two sisters, Elaine Paskuna and Sister Dorothy Ann Gensur, O.P., both of Florida, a sister-in-law, B.J. Recupero and her husband Edward of Stratford, two nieces, Jennifer Mamone, her husband Chris and their children, Justin and Paige and Kim Correia, her husband Anthony and their children, Anthony and Marcus. Funeral services will take place Friday, April 1, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of The Assumption Church, Fairfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 659 Tower Avenue, First Floor, Hartford, CT 06112.
