Obituary of William P. Charney

William P. Charney, age 90, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Susan Scordo Charney. Born in Bridgeport on November 4, 1925, he was a son of the late Thomas and Annie Vernocky Charney. A U.S. Navy veteran having served honorably during World War II, Mr. Charney later was employed by the McClean Trucking Company for many years before his retirement. He was a member of both the Teamster's Local 191 and the Fairweather Yacht Club, where he built many lasting relationships. He was a hardworking man and "Jack of All Trades". He also found great enjoyment tending to his garden and growing cucumbers and tomatoes. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his son, Frank G. Winner and his wife Nancy of Trumbull, a granddaughter, Michele Tuck and her husband Jeff of Southbury, two great grandchildren, Mikayla and Justin Tuck and a sister, Dorothy Douglass of Deland, FL. He was predeceased by his brother, Matthew Charney and a sister, Mary Charney. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
