Obituary of Michael S. Mastroni

Michael Mastroni, 66, of Trumbull, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the beloved husband of 41 years to Laura (Ferrie) Mastroni, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and treasured memories, often telling everyone how he met his wife at the disco.

Born on September 19, 1959 in Bridgeport, he was the son to the late George and Matilda (Fusco) Mastroni. Michael’s work ethic began at age 8 as a paperboy, with his dog, Clyde, faithfully by his side.

Mike devoted more than 46 years to Sikorsky Aircraft before retiring in 2024, where he specialized in balancing tail blades for Black Hawk helicopters, and later had the honor of working under Presidential Clearance.

In 2004, Mike founded the Connecticut Fallen Heroes Foundation, a non-profit organization that became one of his greatest passions. For the next 22 years, he worked tirelessly alongside his dedicated volunteers to honor Gold Star families, recognize the sacrifices of our nation's fallen heroes, and ensure their memories would never be forgotten. The Mastroni family extends their deepest gratitude to Marla Roscoe, Lisa Puglia, Mark Mihalick, Jim McMahon, and Dee Lucarelli for their unrelenting support, friendship, and years of service.

Mike’s generosity reached well beyond the foundation—fundraising for annual events that directly supported Gold Star families, as well as providing scholarships to prospective college students. In 2008, President George W. Bush personally invited Mike and volunteers to the Oval Office where they were awarded special recognition by the President for their steadfast dedication to their community.

Among his greatest joys was coaching his three daughters in Little League, a role he embraced with pride and love. Nothing made him happier than being at home cooking Sunday dinner: meatballs, chicken cacciatore, and his famous stuffed artichokes, which were taught to him by his grandmother Assunta.

A parishioner of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish in Trumbull, Mike drew great comfort from his faith.

He is survived by his wife and daughters, Christina (Ken), Sarah (Jonathan), and Rachel Castagna (John); granddaughter, Madelyn, and expected grandson John; sisters, Jane Russo (Jim), Susan Tarasuk (Robert), and Marie Mastroni; brother, George Mastroni; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Mastroni and his loyal dog Emma.

The family wishes to thank the many friends and family who continuously checked in and showed their support on a daily basis. Your thoughtful presence meant everything to us.

Friends may greet the family on Thursday, July 30, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.  Interment will be private.
