Obituary of Trong Binh Tran

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Trong Binh Tran, who passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at the age of 82 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on August 26, 1943, in Ba Tri, Ben Tre, Vietnam, Trong lived a life defined by courage, resilience, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.

He graduated from the 25th Class of Thu Duc Military Academy and served as a Second Lieutenant in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam.

In 1986, during the difficult years following the Vietnam War, he made the courageous decision to escape communist Vietnam by boat with his two sons, Thien and Ha. The journey was dangerous and uncertain, marked by pirates, rough seas, limited food and water, and the constant fear of being lost at sea. After many days, they reached safety at the Pulau Bidong refugee camp in Malaysia, where they lived among thousands of other Vietnamese refugees while awaiting resettlement. Through the United Nations refugee program, he was granted asylum in the United States and arrived in Connecticut on September 4, 1987, beginning the challenging but hopeful task of rebuilding his life.

In 1991, through a family sponsorship program, his beloved wife, Le Thi Tran, along with their daughter, Trinh, and son, Thinh (Cuong), arrived in Connecticut to be reunited with him. After years of separation, their reunion was a moment of immense joy and gratitude, marking the beginning of a new chapter together as a family in the United States. In 1998, their family was made complete when his son, Binh, daughter-in-law, Phuong, and granddaughter, Amy, also joined them. Their long- awaited reunion was a joyful milestone and marked the beginning of a new chapter together as a family in the United States

Trong was a dedicated high school teacher who was respected by colleagues and loved by many of his students. He found joy in spending time with his family, writing poetry and sharing it on Facebook, and singing karaoke with heartfelt enthusiasm.

Above all, he cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Le Thi Tran; his five children and their spouses; and his nine grandchildren, all of whom will miss him deeply and forever cherish his love, guidance, and gentle spirit.

Family and friends are warmly invited to celebrate his life. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 9, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home in Trumbull.

A burial service will take place on Monday, August 10, at 10:00 a.m. at Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield.

Though he is no longer with us, his love, wisdom, strength, and the memories he created will remain in our hearts forever.
