Obituary of John G. Mikota

U.S. Navy Veteran John G. Mikota, age 87, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Dolores (Dolly) Edwina Mikota, died peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at St. Vincent Medical Center. Born on August 5, 1926 in Oak Park, IL, he was the son of the late John G. Sr. and Lillian Dedic Mikota. John met the love of his life, Dolly, in the early 1940s at a swimming hole and they were married in September of 1949 in Chicago. He attended Bradley High School in Illinois where he was a member of the marching band and excelled at basketball. He earned his Bachelors Degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. While serving in the U. S. Navy, he was an enemy aircraft spotter during World War II. John was a recruiting and development manager for Continental Can Co. for many years before retiring. He belonged to the Connecticut Power Squadron and was honored by the Connecticut Bowling Association where he represented Connecticut in the Senior Olympics multiple times. He enjoyed traveling, boating and spending time on the water for over 40 years and was proud to have continued to water ski until the age of 69. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Hutchings and her husband James of Burlington Township, NJ, two sons, Keith Mikota and his wife Caren of Colorado and Paul Mikota of Trumbull, two granddaughters, Chelsea Lynne and Jenna Renee and two step grandchildren, Zeb and Zachary Tate. He also leaves behind a sister, Florence Novak of Cicero, IL as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother-in-law, Ray Novak Sr. Funeral Information All funeral services were private and burial took place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Donations Information In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorial contributions to an education fund to benefit his granddaughters, through the funeral director.
