Obituary of John R. Mirto

John R. Mirto, age 71, of Stratford, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Bridgeport Hospital with his family by his side. Born on February 6, 1942 in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Ralph and Bertha Smith Mirto. John was a proud veteran serving in the United States Navy. Before his retirement, he enjoyed driving the thousands of passengers over the many years as a tour bus driver. He always looked forward to driving on his annual Veterans trips in November to the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C. He especially enjoyed spending time with his cherished grandchildren, Wyatt and Bennett. Survivors include three sons, John Mirto and his wife Dolly, Philip Mirto, Ralph Mirto and his wife Michele, a stepdaughter, Heather Rossi and her husband Vince, a beloved sister, Edith Standish, a special niece and nephew, Cathy Smarz and her husband Joseph and Bill Standish and his wife Rebecca, a dear uncle, Sam Smith, four grandchildren and a great grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Mirto, Jr. and a brother-in-law, Woody Standish. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michaels Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
