Obituary of Diane Friend

Diane Gainer Friend passed away peacefully on Monday, May 23, 2011 at St. Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport with her entire family by her side after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Olga and Ralph A. Gainer, Jr. and the loving wife of Roger Friend. Diane was a selfless person who never tired of helping others in need. She touched so many people from extended family to friends as a voice to guide them through the darkest times and a pillar of strength based on the deepest caring to give those she touched the true light of hope. And, for as much as Diane loved to help others, her greatest joy in life and the center of her universe were her husband, her children, and her grandchildren to which she gave unconditional love. Diane was a deeply religious person and gave a tremendous amount of her time to the Huntington Congregational Church by participating in all of its charity and outreach events. Diane is survived by her loving husband Roger Friend of 52 years and her children Warren Friend and his wife Holly, Cynthia Morris, and Michele Berardo and her husband Scott. She is also survived by her eight wonderful grandchildren Robert Morris, Christopher Friend, Ryan Friend, Opel Morris, Patrick Friend, Elise Morris, Caroline Berardo, and Matthew Berardo. She is survived by her brother Ralph A. Gainer III and his wife Patricia. Diane is survived by several nieces, nephews, godchildren and cousins with whom she was very close and who will never forget her. Funeral Information A Memorial Service celebrating her life will take place on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Huntington Congregational Church, 19 Church St., Shelton. Interment will follow in Lawn Cemetery, Shelton. There will be no calling hours.
