Peter Passalacqua

Obituary of Peter Passalacqua

Peter Passalacqua (Passal), of San Marcos, CA, beloved husband of Norma Hess Passalacqua, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2014 at the age of 93. He was born July 25, 1920 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Jennie and Salvatore Passalacqua. Peter retired to the San Diego area in the early 1990s after more than thirty years as a barber and the owner of the Gem Barber Shop in Stratford. From 1937 1940, Peter served in the U.S. National Guard and received an honorable discharge on completion of his service. During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army as a medical aidman during the Battle of Okinawa. As was typical of many members of the Greatest Generation, he never spoke about the horrific battle scenes he experienced as a combat medic until near the end of his life. Peter will always be remembered as a very friendly, outgoing person who loved to strike up conversations with everyone. He had a wonderful and infectious sense of humor along with a great love of animals. Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Patricia Halioris and husband Emmanuel (Sonny) of Williamsburg, VA, his devoted sisters, Nancy Buscis and Jean Principe of Carlsbad, CA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Verderame Passalacqua and his brother Victor Passalacqua. Peters family would like to thank the wonderful and caring nurses and volunteers from Light Bridge Hospice for so generously providing love and support to Peter and his family.
