Obituary of Gene Poulos

Life member of Lions Club International Gene Gus Poulos Sr. PDG, age 70, of Beacon Falls, Connecticut died on Tuesday, March 28, 2006. Born in Bridgeport and was a resident of Trumbull for 42 years. He was the husband to the late Marie Chimino Poulos. He is survived by three sons, Gene Poulos, Jr. and his wife, Connie of Prospect; Rodney Poulos of Monroe; Stacy Poulos and his wife, Lauren of Beacon Falls; two grandsons, Gregory Poulos of Monroe, Alexander Poulos of Beacon Falls and four granddaughters Stephanie, Rachel, Kimberly, and Chloe Poulos of Beacon Falls. He was a graduate of Bullard Havens Technical School and the American Institute of Baking. Retired, he was the owner of Broad River Bakery and a partner of Anns Newfield Bakerys. He was a member of the Model A Ford Club of America and one of the co-founders of the Nutmeg Auto Club. He was also a past Chairman of Board of Managers for the Lakewood Trumbull YMCA and on the committee that founded the name, which encompassed Trumbull, Monroe, and Easton. He was a past member of the Fairfield county Toastmasters Club, board member of the Pomperaug console of Boy Scouts of America, and member of Bridgeport Odd Fellows Club. He was a dedicated lion. His service began in 1956 and continued throughout the rest of his life. He was a life member of the Lions Club International and a charter member of the Trumbull Center Lions Club. He served as president of the Trumbull Lions Club, Governor of District 23-A Lions Club International, and president for the Lions District 23-A Low Vision Center. Most recently, he served as president of the Trumbull Center Lions. While a lion, he received many awards in recognition of his dedication and service. These awards include the Melvin Jones Humanitarian Fellow, 100% Lions Presidents Award, 100% Governors Award, Ambassador of Sight recognition, Lions International President Medal of Leadership Award and Knight of the Blind. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Lions Eye Research Foundation at the Yale New Haven Medical Center and started the golf tournament for the Lions research foundation. In addition, he began the Ambassador of Sight recognition award. In 1998, he became a member of the Trumbull Civitans Club and later served as president. He also became the president of the newly formed Stratford/Trumbull Civitans Club. He served as the District Governor of the New England District Civitans and received the New England District Civitans Honor Key. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Friday, March 31, 2006 at 10 a.m. directly in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 -8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Lions memorial service will begin on Thursday at 6:15 p.m. and a Trisagion service will be held at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home. Donations Information In lieu of flower those who so desire may make memorial donations to Stratford/Trumbull Civitans, Trumbull Center Lions and Beacon Falls Lions Club through the funeral home.
