Obituary of Marie T. Gambardella

Marie Theresa Gambardella, 91, of Bridgeport, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014, at St. Josephs Manor after a brief illness. Born November 1, 1922 in Bridgeport, CT, Marie was the daughter of the late Pantaleone and Teresa Romano Gambardella. Marie, also known lovingly as Mimi or Dolly, grew up in Bridgeport where she attended St. Augustines Elementary School and Central High School. Marie worked as a seamstress for 43 years at Warnaco, Inc. in Bridgeport, a job she truly was proud of. Marie was a kind and giving person who loved her family, especially her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She loved spending time with them attending Sunday dinners, picnics, birthdays and other special family events. Her happiest days were spent taking them to Seaside Park with an early dinner at McDonalds. Mimi was truly a selfless person as she spent many Saturdays taking her lady friends to church, knitting shawls for cancer patients, and supporting her favorite charity, the Mary Knoll Mission. She was an avid knitter, Po-Ke-No player, and loved the Game Show Network. She was a devout Catholic and attended St. Augustines Church in Bridgeport most of her life, where she volunteered for countless activities, but the one that brought the most joy to her was working in the churchs Welcome Shop. Mimi was appreciative of the smallest of gesturesa burnt hot dog, a school photo of her kids, or an ice cream cone under the grapevine. She is survived by two sisters, Connie Tuozzoli, of Bridgeport, and Rose Sansonetti and her husband, Tom, of Stratford and many nieces and nephews who truly adored her calm, genuine, and loving spirit. She is predeceased by three brothers, Natale, Anthony, and Louis. A special and heartfelt thanks to her niece and nephew-in-law, Francine and Lenny Parente, who lovingly and generously took care of her for many years as well as to the kind staff at St. Josephs Manor who cared for her in a tender and respectful manner these past few months.
