Obituary of Edna Baker Breedis

Edna Baker Breedis, more familiarly know as Dene, passed away with the comfort of her family by her side on February 13, 2014 after a prolonged illness. Born in Needham, MA on September 17, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Channing Nichols Baker and Edna Hammersley Baker. She grew up in Harwichport on Cape Cod, where she developed her deep love of nature. Dene graduated from Wheaton College in Norton, MA with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. She worked as a botanist in plant enzymology at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in Hamden and at the University of Illinois before becoming a full-time mom to her children. She was the beloved wife of 53 years to John F. Breedis and loving mother to their three children, Katherine Breedis of New York City, John Baker Breedis of Wellesley, MA (and his wife Karin), and Elizabeth (Betsey) Glynn of Trumbull (and her husband Sean). Dene was also a loving grandmother to John Channing and Emily of Wellesley, and Conor and Ryan of Trumbull. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Macaulay of Basking Ridge, NJ, a cousin, Joan Nutter of New London, NH, and numerous nephews and nieces. Dene was a compassionate wife, mother and friend as well as an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox. She expressed herself creatively through cooking, gardening (including her water garden), and craft arts. Dene will be enormously missed by all who knew her. Funeral Information Friends are invited to greet the family at a memorial gathering that will take place on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull from 4-8 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Rd., Fairfield. Private interment will take place in the spring at Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull.
