Obituary of John J. Treglia

Bridgeport Resident John Treglia, of Bridgeport and formerly of Trumbull died peacefully in his home on Sunday November 4, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by Mary Tripolone Treglia, his wife of 61 years, and his daughters, Susan Treglia and Jane Treglia March, a son-in-law, John March, and grandchildren, John March and Mary March Flores and her husband Johnny Flores, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was born on December 20, 1928 to Mary Tucciarone Treglia and Anthony Treglia and was predeceased by his sisters Phyllis Canterera, Marion La Rocco, Genevieve Pantan, and Angelina Truino, and their husbands. Johnny joined the Army at the age of 17 and was assigned to The First Infantry Division under General Eisenhower and later under Mark Clark. He served in Europe during the reconstruction and occupation after World War II. As a telephone specialist he helped to repair the destroyed telecommunications systems. He was a member of the prestigious Honor Guard for the European Command Headquarters which accompanied high-ranking officials and heads of states that visited post war Germany. He served with repatriation teams and helped to reunite families displaced by the war with their relatives in North and South America, Great Britain and Europe. He served as a courier during the Nuremberg trials for war criminals. Upon completion of his European tour of duty he served 12 additional years in The Army Reserve and an additional 4 years with The Navy Reserve, both in active and inactive capacities. John was a member of VFW Post 1059 in Trumbull. John lead his own building contracting firm which constructed and renovated many residences and commercial properties in Fairfield County, including the award-winning retro-style renovation of the Southport Railroad Station. John was member of a number of business and civic organizations including his service as President of the Trumbull Italian-American Community Center and as an active member of The Bridgeport Athletic League. He loved to cook and to recreate his mothers traditional Italian recipes. He enjoyed travel with his family and friends and was an avid NE Patriots fan. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton St., Bridgeport on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment with full Military Honors will follow in Mt. Grove Chapel Mausolem, Bridgeport.
