Obituary of George H. Burr

Proud U.S. Army Veteran George H. Burr, of Trumbull, age 96, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 after a long illness. George was born in Bridgeport the son of the late George C. and Nellie Oliver Burr. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, the former Vivian Liburdy. George was a proud veteran of Omaha Beach on D-Day. He was in the initial landings on Omaha and was wounded eleven days later, prior to entering St. Lo. His story is available at www.omaha-beach-memorial.org. He was discharged from the service on December 24, 1944 due to his wounds. He married his wife, Vivian, in 1945. He was active in Park City Little League for many years, and American Legion Post 142 in Trumbull as well as St. Marys Church, Bridgeport and St. Theresa Church, Trumbull. Also, he was a member of the 29th Division Association, and the annual 116th Infantry, Company M, Army reunion in Emporia, Virginia. Always patriotic, he was proud to represent the Veterans as the Grand Marshall of the 2010 Memorial Day Parade in Trumbull. If grandchildren are the icing on the cake, George had his a la mode! He delighted in watching his grandson and great-grandsons play sports, never missing an opportunity to attend a little league game or hockey game even in his 90s. He is survived by his two children: George Burr and his wife MaryAnn Francik Burr of Shelton, and Suzanne Burr and her husband Domenic Monaco of Trumbull; two grandchildren: David Burr and his wife Christina of Huntington, and Lisa Burr Carloto of Trumbull; four great-grandsons: Nicholas and Matthew Carloto, and Ryan and Ethan Burr; his nephew, Freeman Burr and his wife Eileen of Bloomfield, his wifes nephews L. Thomas Sands and his wife Debbie of Huntington, John Sands and his wife Mary Ellen of North Haven, cousins Frances and Gail Hanna of Trumbull. He was pre-deceased by his beloved brother, Freeman Burr of Stratford. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Veterans Administration of West Haven for their wonderful care with special thanks to his doctors and case workers at the VA, and his many home health aides over the years, especially Lorraine Bruce and his physical therapist, Joe. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Friday March 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 5-7 pm. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
