Obituary of Emma Claire Cannon

Stratford Resident Emma Claire (Cavalluzzo) Cannon, 92, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Lawrence Edward Cannon, passed away peacefully at home on February 6, with her loving family by her side. Born on July 23, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Raphaela Impresa Cavalluzzo. A very devoted and loving mother to her seven children, family was her centerpiece. For her, the best day was when she was visited by one of her children or grandchildren. She always encouraged her family to work hard and do their best, as she had done coming from very humble beginnings. While she was determined and persevering in all that she did, she had a loving and soft heart. Emma was very devoted to her faith and lived life following those principles. She loved the arts, especially music, which could often be heard before you entered the house. She also loved to travel, leading her to visit many countries, Italy and Ireland among her favorites. Emma also loved plants, from African Violets to Geraniums and other exotic plants from around the world. Emma was a first generation American, with Italian heritage, who loved to prepare Italian cuisine with recipes handed down over generations, however being married to a true Irishman, one would believe she was part Irish herself. She met her husband Larry, the love of her life, at an Irish Hibernian dance in Brooklyn in 1941. They were married for 70 years and were inseparable. She leaves behind her children, Patricia Yanosy and husband John, Lawrence Cannon and wife Mary, Dolores Connor and husband Joseph Triano, Christopher Cannon and wife Kate, Kevin Cannon and wife Elaine, Elizabeth Crosby and husband David, a sister, Helen Russo, grandchildren John, Michael, Keith, Jason, Faith, Ethan, Sean, Kathryn, Nicholas, Christian, and David, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Larry, her son John, her brother Mike, and three sisters, Josephine, Mary and Rita. Funeral Information A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 12th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford CT.
