Obituary of Muriel B. Downey

Muriel Mimi Downey, age 80, of Shelton, a retired operator for SNET, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on January 28, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Esther Carlberg Burritt and was a longtime Trumbull resident before recently moving. Mrs. Downey was a graduate of Bassick High School and received an Associates Degree from Shenandoah University in Virginia. She was an avid golfer and member of the Mill River Country Club. Survivors include her husband John T. Downey, two daughters, Betsy Ryan and her husband Fred of Newtown and Susan McElroy and her husband Larry of Trumbull, four grandchildren, Eddie and Johnny McElroy and Haley and Katie Ryan. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all her doctors and nurses at St. Vincents especially the dedicated staff in the Intensive Care Unit. Funeral Information Friends can greet the family on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. All other services will be conducted privately.
