Obituary of William T. McGuire Sr.

William Thomas McGuire, age 89, of Cookeville, TN and formerly of Trumbull, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 in Bethesda Health Care in Cookeville, TN. He was born on April 14, 1925 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Patrick J. and Aurilla D. LaPierre McGuire. Mr. McGuire retired from the Bridgeport Police Department after serving 28 years as a patrolman. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army 11th Airborne Division-Pacific Theater and was a heavy machine gunner. He served overseas for 19 months in the Philippines, Okinawa, Japan, and Alaska with Company D, 187th Glider Infantry Regiment. As a parachute gunner, he fired and serviced heavy 30 caliber machine guns to destroy enemy personnel and installations. He was a member of various organizations and associations such as The Knights of Columbus where he was a Third Degree Knight, The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Past President of the Trumbull Italian Community Club and the Tashua Knolls Senior Club where he will be remembered as an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Grace Cousins McGuire; son, William T. McGuire and wife Barbara of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Matthew W. McGuire of Colorado and Kelly G. McGuire of Connecticut; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
