Obituary of John P. O'Leary

John P. O'Leary, age 85, of Fairfield passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly. Born in Bridgeport on December 5, 1928, he was a son of the late Patrick and Catherine Murphy O'Leary. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, John had received his undergraduate degree from Niagara University in 1952 before attending the Georgetown School of Foreign Service, Washington, D.C. He then attended St. John's Law School for a time before obtaining his Master's Degree from the University of Bridgeport. John then began his career as a history teacher at Central High School in Bridgeport before his retirement with many years of dedicated service. He was an avid golfer and found great enjoyment traveling and spending his summers in Ireland. He is survived by his brother, Msgr. Cornelius O'Leary of California and nieces, Sheila Heineken and her husband Dr. Christian Heineken and Patricia O'Leary Maguire and her husband Thomas. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles O'Leary and his beloved companion Kay Tagliafero. The family would like to thank the Jewish Home for the Elderly, especially the nurses and staff of Bennett 2 for their care and compassion that had been extended to John during his stay. Family and friends may call at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in the Chapel Mausoleum of St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
