Obituary of Stephen Hrenyo
Stephen Hrenyo, age 94 of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully in Connecticut Hospice, Branford on Sunday, September 28, 2014. Born in Bridgeport to Demiter and Mary Hlivak Hrenyo, he was a lifelong resident. Stephen graduated from Waltersville School and attended Bullard Havens Technical School.
Stephen was employed by Decca Records, Remington Arms and General Electric for 42 year. He worked in the Bridgeport GE Factory in the wire and cable repair department; he was a GE union member (AFI- CIO) and a staunch Democrat. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club. Stephen attended Roman-Catholic Mass every Sunday for over 50 years at Holy Rosary Church in Bridgeport where he also belonged to the men's club. He enjoyed his comradery with his church friends as well as his co-workers at GE. In his youth, Stephen enjoyed going to the Ritz Ballroom, the Majestic and the Poli Theaters as well as the Westport Playhouse and his neighborhood club the White Eagles. He used to enjoy long motorcycle rides to New Brunswick, New Jersey to visit his family with his brother-in-law, John Lepesko. As a Bridgeport resident, he loved his neighborhood, born and lived on Riley St., Hallet St., and later years on Price St. His favorite past time was TV, news, action movies and wrestling shows. Stephen was not a veteran, however he participated in the FDR's Conservation Corps (CCCamp) in Wyoming around 1939. As a survivor of "The Great Depression" he left school prematurely to work in order to help his family, he would like to be remembered as a "Good Guy"
Stephen is survived by wife Maria Farina Hrenyo of 55 years of marriage of Bridgeport, his son, Anthony Hrenyo and daughter-in-law, Sandra Hrenyo of Orange, CT and grandson, Santiago Romero of South Royalton, VT, his niece, Marianne Gnida of Stratford CT, the Lepesko family of Stratford and Milford, the Demeo family of Naugatuck, the Maugeri family of Huntington and his family in Italy, the Farina family of Marcianese, the Cutillo family of Gaeta, the Pacelli of San Salvatore, the Telesino and Dibrigida families of San Salvatore as well as his loving friends and neighbors especially his caregiver, Elaine Lewis.
