Obituary of Chester S. Gumkowski
Chester S. Gumkowski, age 84, of Stratford, a retired tool and die maker for Peerless Aluminum Co., died Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Lord Chamberlain Health Care. Born in Bridgeport on August 31, 1920, he was a son of the late Walter and Michelina Gumkowski, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. At St. Ambrose Church, Mr. Gumkowski served as a trustee, was a Parish Council member, a Eucharistic Minister, Head Usher, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Stratford V.F.W. Post #10273 and was a past president of Fun Loving Squares.
Mr. Gumkowski was pre-deceased by his wife, Eleanor Williams Gumkowski, two sisters, Doris Pickering and Anne Baronowski and two brothers, John Gumkowski and Joseph Gurski.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Gumkowski and his wife, Teresa of Westport, MA and Thomas Gumkowski and his wife, Linda of Madison, a daughter, Mary Gumkowski of Stratford, eight grandchildren, Charles Gumkowski, Jr. of Newport, RI, Brian Gumkowski of Boulder, CO, Catrina Faherty of East Concord, NH, Andrew and Timothy Gumkowski, both of Westport, MA and Krystyn Barnick, Scott and Mark Gumkowski, all of Stratford and three great grandchildren, Madyson, Georgia and Daniel Barnick.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 31, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will full military honors will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
