Obituary of Luis F. Ferreira

Luis Francisco Ferreira, age 91, of Monroe, beloved husband of Elvira DaGraca Ferreira, passed away peacefully on Friday March 13, 2015 with his family by his side. Born on February 12, 1924 in Bidoeira deCima, Leiria, Portugal, he was a son of the late Manuel Antonio Ferreira and Joaquina de Sousa Ferreira. A member of the Portuguese Army, he came to the U.S. in 1976 with his family and settled in Bridgeport. He was a hardworking man and had strong family values. A devout Catholic, he was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bridgeport and St. Jude Church, Monroe and loved to tend to his garden and animals. But above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who cared deeply for his family. His strong values and love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family. He will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, Elvira, survivors include two loving daughters Maria Bigelow and her husband Alan of Monroe, Idalina DeOliveira and her husband Joao of Portugal, five cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Cannon, Jeffrey and Justin Bigelow and Paulo and Maria Joao DeOliveira, two adored great granddaughters, Karley and Kaylee, a brother Manuel Ferreiro and his wife Otilia of Portugal, brother-in-law, Anibal Carloto and his wife Judite of Bridgeport, sister-in-law, Rosa Barroso of Portugal, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday March 17, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Jude Church, Monroe for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
