Obituary of Lucinda Cerqueira Dantas

Lucinda Cerqueira Dantas, age 96, of Monroe and formerly of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Joaquim Rodrigues Barreira, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at St. Vincent's Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Azere, Arcos De Valdevez, Minho, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Antonio Cerqueira Dantas and Aurora Dantas Cerqueira. Lucinda emigrated from Portugal to the United States in 1983, settling in Bridgeport with her daughter before moving to Monroe in 1989. Lucinda was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who cared for her family with a deep love putting their needs before her own. She always had a big smile on her face when she was around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by a son, Alfredo Barreira, a granddaughter, Isabel Dantas Teixeira and her brother Manuel Dantas Cerqueira. Survivors include three loving children, Antonio Barreira and his wife Teresa of Trumbull, Estefania Dantas of Monroe and Aurora Pedreira and her husband Manuel of Kearney, NJ, nine grandchildren, Lucia DeAndrade and her husband Antero, Jose Barreira and his wife Farrah, Regina Barreira, Mark Barreira, Lucinda Lima and her husband Joaquim, Sandra Teixeira and her husband Pedro, Fernanda Lima, Paula Barreira and Anabella Barreira, 15 great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place in Azere Cemetery, Azere, Arcos De Valdevez, Minho, Portugal. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Swim Across the Sound c/o St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.
