Obituary of Helen Cecelia Somogie

Helen C. Salik Somogie, age 89, of Ballston Spa, NY; formerly of Trumbull, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. She was the beloved wife of Otto Somogie. Born in Wilkes Barre, PA on February 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John and Nellie Przybelowski Salik. Helen had been employed by the former Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET) of Bridgeport, where she worked as a telephone operator for many years before her retirement in 1982. Helen and her husband also lived in East Wakefield, NH, and Dunnellon, FL after retirement. She loved to knit and crochet, and was interested in collecting bells, spoons, and other trinkets from around the world. Her greatest pleasure, however, was found in the time she spent with her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great -grandmother, and friend; she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her beloved husband, Otto, of 67 years, and her beloved shih-tzu, Pooh, other survivors include her children, Glen Somogie and his wife, Debbie, of Shelton, Ginger Morris and her husband, Stuyvesant, Gwen Somogie and her husband, Phil Colarusso, and Gaye Somogie, all of Malta, NY. Her six cherished grandchildren are Stuyvie Morris and his wife, Danielle Donovan, Glen Somogie Jr, Jalena Manzino and her husband, Rob, Amanda Somogie, Hunter Somogie, and Celia Somogie-Barnett. Helen also is survived by her adored great granddaughter, Vienna Manzino. She has many nieces and nephews as well. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gale Herrera, and her brothers, Frank and Tony Salik. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in the St. Monica Mausoleum of Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/join_the_cause_donate.asp
