Obituary of John R. Sarno

John Robert Sarno, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Passes On November 3, John Robert Sarno (Jack) passed peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is the son of the late Dominick Sarno, and the late Louise Rose Sarno of Westport, Connecticut. He was also lovingly raised by his stepmother, the late Connie Sarno. Since 1971, Jack lived in Easton, Connecticut. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Annabelle Sarno. In addition, he is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Ann Vontell (her husband Robert Joseph Vontell, Jr.) of Easton, Connecticut, son John Alan Sarno (his wife Cherylanne Kanca Sarno) of Glen Rock, New Jersey, son Glenn Robert Sarno (his wife Eun-Kyung Sarno) of Manhattan, New York, and six grandchildren: Robert Joseph Vontell, III and Jon Paul Vontell of Easton, Connecticut, Amanda Kayla Sarno and Michael John Sarno of Glen Rock, New Jersey, Evan Glenn Sarno and Sophia Grace Sarno of Manhattan, New York. He has three sisters and one brother: Palma Manes of Oxford, Connecticut, Frances Pollack of Westport, Connecticut, Antoinette Sarno of Half Moon Bay, California, and the late Thomas Sarno of Westport, Connecticut. Jack was born in Norwalk and raised in Westport, Connecticut. His father and uncle, both Italian immigrants, owned the Sarno barbershop on Main Street. Jack graduated from Staples High School in 1954 and the University of Connecticut in 1958, where he was a member of the Society for Advancement of Management, the Association of the US Army, and the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Commissioned in 1958 by the US Army, he served six months active duty, seven years active reserves, being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain in 1969. He worked as a manager for military engine contracts at Avco Lycoming, a defense plant in Stratford, Connecticut, and was a lifetime real estate broker. Jack was a multi-talented man, who shared his prodigious knowledge and skills with everyone around him. A passionate soul and compassionate man in every way, Jack is best known for the zeal he had for life and the love he always exuded for his family, friends and all people whom he met. He was outgoing, friendly, and always saw goodness in everyone. Jack traveled extensively. He enjoyed golf, long rides on his motorcycle, sports cars, music, cooking, water gardening, and good conversation. Jack had a special affinity for Italian culture and cuisine. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime contributor to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Father Flanagan's Boys Town as well as many other relief organizations throughout the world. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015, 11:00 am, at Notre Dame of Easton, 655 Morehouse Road, Easton, Connecticut 06612, followed by a procession to the Oak Lawn Cemetery, 1530 Bronson Road, Fairfield, Connecticut 06824. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Notre Dame of Easton Sanctuary Fund. Arrangements in care of the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
