Obituary of Marjorie S. Derle

Marjorie Swendsen Derle, age 96, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Maefair Health Care Center in Trumbull surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert H. Derle. Born in Derby, CT on April 11, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Mildred Dimon Swendsen. A graduate of Bassick High School in 1936, she later attended Booth and Bayliss Technical School. Marjorie was employed by the Town of Monroe, where she worked as a secretary for many years before her retirement. Prior to that, she had worked for John Ives Insurance Company, Remington Arms, Bullards and the Farm Bureau on Park Avenue. She was also a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years and the St. Peter's Choir and Alter Guild. Survivors include her loving daughters, Mildred Derle of Monroe, Beverly Boiselle of Stonington and Susan Basista and her husband John of Mt. Dora, FL, four cherished grandchildren, Amanda Tagg and her husband Jason of North Stonington, Leah Boiselle of Stonington, Norman Boiselle of Stonington and Jennifer Basista of Mt. Dora, FL, her three great grandchildren, Lily and Griffin Tagg and Maci Coats as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Sam, Brad and John Swendsen and sisters, Marie Vernik and Bernice Joyce. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 175 Old Tannery Rd., Monroe. Interment will follow in Monroe Center Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Memorial Fund, 175 Old Tannery Rd., Monroe, CT 06468.
