Obituary of Michael O. Walsh

Michael O. Walsh, age 88, of Shelton, beloved husband of 53 years of the late Mary Lou Flaherty Walsh, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Griffin Hospital. Born on September 9, 1927 in Belmullet, County Mayo, Ireland, he was a son of the late Anthony and Annie Reilly Walsh. After moving to the United States he was a longtime resident of Norwalk before moving to Shelton. Mr. Walsh was proud to have served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Before his retirement, he operated many businesses and was a self-made man. He was driven to be an accomplished man and worked hard to provide for his family and give his children the opportunity to attend college. He was proud of his heritage and loved being Irish. Survivors include his loving children, Tim Walsh and his wife Teresa, of Westport; Jeanne Scarpone and Linda A. Walsh, both of Shelton; Dianne Jewell and her husband Jeff, of Norwalk; Megan Hogan and her husband Philip, of Fairfield; and Susan Walsh, of Shelton; a brother, Thomas Walsh of Ireland, and ten grandchildren, Taylor, Ryan and Austin Scarpone, Justin and Jenna Jewell, Philip, Edmund and Thomas Hogan and Emily and Jessica Walsh as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church, Shelton for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
