Obituary of Mary L. Camacho

Mary L. Serrao Camacho, age 93, of the Lordship Section of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Augusto Camacho, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital with her loving family by her side. A daughter of the late Antonio and Julia Serrao, Mary was born in New Bedford, MA on November 10, 1922. As a child Mary would return to her parent's native country of Fajã da Ovelha, Madeira Islands, Portugal, where Mary would spend her childhood and eventually meet her husband. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her family. She treasured the times when everyone was together and she always prepared the most fantastic meals for all to enjoy. She was also a very talented seamstress. Mary put the needs of others before her own and was always ready to lend a hand to someone in need. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her daughters, Juvelina Santos and Gabriella Papp. Survivors include three loving daughters, Dolly Camacho, Diane Romano and her husband Richard all of Stratford and Catherine Leite and her husband Steve of Naugatuck, eight cherished grandchildren, Joe Santos, Donnie Santos, Linda Papp, Susan Brady, Lauralee Hahn, Mark Romano and Jennifer and Kimberly Leite; 12 adored great grandchildren; a brother Manuel Serrao of FL, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Peace Church, Stratford, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.
