Obituary of Joseph Costa

Joseph Costa born January 21, 1924 in Bridgeport, CT passed away on February 26, 2016, the son of the late Louis and Maria Guadagno Costa (Sicily, Italy). He is also pre-deceased by 3 brothers, John Costa, Louis Costa, Salvatore Costa, 3 sisters Nellie McCausland, twin infant sisters, niece Deborah Bennett, nephews Timothy McCausland, Nick Costa, brothers-in-law Michael Bennett, Joseph Leonardi and sisters-in-law Bertha Costa and Jane Casey. He graduated with a B.A. from Drake University, Iowa in 1950 and taught at the high school level in Iowa. Joseph was an accomplished black belt in Jiu-Jitsu for many years and owned and operated a Judo school in Stratford and instructed numerous students. He believed in Natural Healing with vitamins and nutrition and received many certificates in Nutrition. Joseph was a pioneer in the Health Food industry way ahead of it's time and he owned and operated Natural Organic Foods in Bridgeport and New Haven for many years. He was also a mentor who helped many people with their health in the Natural Health Food Community. He is survived by his three loving sisters Ida Leonardi, Grace Bennett, Rose Poe, cousins Nick and Bernie Cariello, 16 nieces and nephews, Jeannette Leonardi, Juliana Spaziani, Christina and Daniel Pereiro, Gino Leonardi, Joseph Bennett, Michael and Cynthia Bennett, Linda and Scott Dawson, Tootsie and Don Meyer, Laura Liskiewicz, Louisa Costa, Lois Lee, Janis Costa, Joseph Costa, Diane Costa, Richard and Maria DaVault , Rebecca Morland, many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and wonderful friends in the neighborhood. He was graciously cared for by William Gutierrez caregiver and friend and also his cherished family. Joseph was a strong, proud man who loved healthy living, martial arts, ballroom dancing, a voracious reader and above all he loved his large family. Funeral Services will take place on Monday, February 29, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers eat healthy, strive for wisdom and to love and take care of your family.
