Obituary of Vito F. Cocca

Vito Fred Cocca, age 91, of Shelton, beloved husband of the late Connie Raucci Cocca, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at CT Hospice of Branford. Born in Barnesboro, PA on November 7, 1924, he was a son of the late Frank and Rose Roberto Cocca and spent most of his life in Bridgeport. Vito served in the United States Navy as a Gunner's Mate, First Class during World War II. Before his retirement in 1984, he worked with the City of Bridgeport as a Firefighter with over 27 years of dedicated service. Always the handyman, he could fix anything! His favorite place to be was in his garage. He loved his walks at Silver Sands and most of all the time he spent with his family. Survivors include his three loving children, Greg (Joann) Cocca of Reno, NV, Jerri (Bob) Wittekind of Discovery Bay, CA and Ginny (Michael) Corraro of Shelton, nine grandchildren, Gregory Cocca, Kristen (Darin) Pepin, Joseph (Amy) O'Hehir, Amy (Jeff) Cimorelli, Michael (Jenilyn) Corraro, John Corraro, Melissa Corraro, Samantha Cocca and Sydney Cocca and seven great grandchildren, Nicolas, Trenton, Anna, Mia, Scott, Lexie and Dominic. He is also survived by a sister, Jean (Frank) Kerekes of Monroe and a daughter-in-law, Maryann Cocca of Derby as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Paul, brothers, Michael, Sam, Anthony and John and a sister, Grace DiPasquale. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Bridges of Trumbull and CT Hospice of Branford. Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
