John M. Zelisko Sr., age 90, of Cheshire and formerly of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Belma Machado Zelisko, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016 with his family by his side. A decorated U.S. Army veteran, John was a POW during World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a retired employee of Miller Buick, where he worked for many years as parts manager before his retirement. But above all he was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. Survivors include his loving son, John M. Zelisko Jr., and his wife Lori of Cheshire, two cherished grandchildren, Jonathan and Gabrielle, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, George and Joseph Zelisko and a sister Frances Hamilla. The Zelisko Family would like to recognize the wonderful care and support John received from the care givers and staff at his assisted living home, The Village at Kensington Place in Meriden CT where John was always smiling and the happiest he could be. All funeral services were held privately and burial with full military honors took place in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Memorial donations can be made in his name to The Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike # 420, Rockville, MD 20850. This organization helps veterans.
