Obituary of Anthony R. Martello

Anthony R. Martello, age 92, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Florence Vetre Martello, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Born in New York City on August 2, 1924, he was a son of the late Dominick and Annunziata Sgariata Martello. A graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Anthony was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft for over 25 years and was formerly employed by Dictaphone Corp. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Company F 37th Infantry from 1943-1946. A Stratford resident since 1951, he was a devoted parishioner of St. Mark's Church for over 45 years. He served as a lector, Eucharistic minister and was a member of the St. Mark's Men's League. Anthony was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2370, Stratford Senior Men's Club and the Stratford Senior Golf Club, as well as the Baldwin, Derby and Shelton Senior Centers. He was an avid ballroom dancer and belonged to the Cha-Rum-Bo Dance Club. Along with his wife, they enjoyed traveling, having visited Europe, Caribbean Islands, Alaska, Hawaii and the Scandinavian Countries. In his later years, he enjoyed going to his great great nephew and twin niece's hockey games. He was a loving husband and uncle, who will be missed by all who loved him. Survivors include a brother, Joseph Martello of New Hyde Park, NY, a special niece Mindi Zarrillo and her children, Nico, Allie and Lexie all of Guilford, as well as several additional nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 15, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mark Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
