Obituary of Nicholas Mainiero

Nicholas Mainiero, age 94, beloved husband of the late Shirley Coleman Mainiero and the late Ann Repaci Mainiero, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 10, 2016 in Regional Hospice and Homecare, Danbury. Born in Dobbs Ferry, NY on August 22, 1922, he was a son of the late Anthony and Lucia Tornillo Mainiero and was a longtime resident of Bridgeport. Nick was a graduate of Central High School class of 1939 and played on both championship football and basketball teams. He was a veteran of World War II and served his country as a Corsair Pilot in the U. S. Marine Corps. After the war he was the owner and operator of the Crystal Palace on Main Street in Bridgeport and before his retirement he was the airport manager for over 20 years at the Sikorsky Memorial Airport. Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Engstrom and her husband Peter of Wilton, a sister, Gloria Seperack of Trumbull, two grandchildren, Scott Engstrom and Jennifer Connelly and her husband Joseph and three great grandchildren, Shay Engstrom and Sean and Matthew Connelly as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Josephine Segala, Lillian Mallin Warner and Evelyn Kaslow. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
