Obituary of William D. Varese

William Daniel Varese, age 37, of Monroe, affectionately known as BJ, died November 23, 2016, following a decade-long battle with substance abuse. A Masuk High School graduate, Class of 1997, BJ studied criminal justice at Housatonic Community College and Western Connecticut State University. He worked as a private investigator following graduation. One of his favorite activities was spending time at the family cottage on Long Island Sound where he enjoyed boating, fishing and swimming. He played soccer in Monroe for 11 years, where he was a star forward. A lifelong Yankees fan, he always loved taking in a home game with his family. A natural in the kitchen, he loved experimenting with different dishes, but his specialty was veal and fettucine alfredo. BJ was always up for a game of chess or poker. His sharp wit and dry sense of humor kept everyone laughing. He had a kind word for everyone he met, and he was always willing to lend a hand, whether to a friend or stranger. He had a heart full of love and caring and will be missed by so many. Survivors include his parents, William and Mary Jeanne Varese, his sister, Ashley and her partner Jeremy Leonard, two aunts, Rosemarie Varese and Peggy Kennedy, and many cousins. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Bridgeport, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may visit on Tuesday from 4 -8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, those desiring can make memorial contributions to the Greater Bridgeport Mental Health Center, 1635 Central Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06610.
