Obituary of Geraldine Teresa Smith
Geraldine Teresa Smith of Trumbull, Connecticut died Thursday, May 4, at her home in Ft Myers, Florida, surrounded by her loving family after a 40 year battle with Type 1 Diabetes.
Gerry was born in Jackson Heights, New York, on April 2, 1944, the middle child of John and Mary Holland. She grew up a few blocks away from her beloved husband of 51 years, George. She was a devoted mother to George and Jennifer and a beloved Mimi to Sophia, Ella, Alex and Charlie.
She and George relocated to homes in New York, Texas and California in connection with George's career before finally settling in Trumbull in 1983.
In recent years Gerry and George were snow birds at their home in Ft Myers, FL, entertaining family and friends and making wonderful memories. Though she traveled far and wide she was always a New Yorker in her heart. She loved going to the theater and dinner in "the City" and hated to miss a Yankees game. Her husband, children, and grandchildren were her world, and she was theirs.
Survived by sister MaryAnn Russo of Hicksville, Long Island and brother John Holland, of Deer Park, Long Island, many nieces & nephews and so, so very many dear friends.
