Obituary of Stanley Thomas Karachuk
Stanley Thomas Karachuk, beloved husband of Margaret Tomaino Karachuk, entered into eternal rest on May 5, 2017, at the age of 82. Born in New York City and raised in Manhattan and the Bronx, Stan was a resident of Trumbull for more than fifty years.
A loyal and steadying presence in the lives of his family and friends, Stan will be missed by his devoted wife Peggy and by their children, David Julian Karachuk of Westport, Halina Lauren Karachuk of New York City, Gregory Thomas Karachuk and his wife Agnieszka Slominska-Karachuk of London, and Robert Karachuk of Columbia, S.C. Stan will be fondly remembered by his brother-in-law Anthony Mario Pagano and by his nieces and nephews, Sarina Pagano Kriston, Paul Pagano, Lori Pagano, and Peter Pagano. Stan is also survived by two grandsons, Kellen Francis Karachuk and Kieron Julian Karachuk. A son of the late Timofe and Aleksandra Kaminska Karachuk, Stan was predeceased by an infant brother, Edward Karachuk. His godparents were the late Paul Kovalchuk and Victoria Janusz. He recently lost his sister-in-law Rosemary Tomaino Pagano.
Stan was a proud graduate of St. Adalbert's Elementary School and All Hallows High School, both in the Bronx. He earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Manhattan College and a Master of Business Administration degree from the City University of New York. Stan also completed the Cornell University Executive Development Program. He was a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a longtime adjunct professor of reliability engineering and management at the University of Bridgeport. Stan made his professional life as an engineer and executive in the defense and aerospace industries. He began his career at Ford Instrument, a division of Sperry-Rand. For more than twenty years, he worked at Perkin-Elmer as a manager or director in the Optical Group, specializing at different times in reliability engineering, product and components assurance, program management, and strategic planning and acquisitions. Among the projects that Stan worked on were the KH-9 Hexagon Spy Satellite and the Hubble Space Telescope. He retired from Norden Systems, a division of United Technologies. Grateful for his faith, Stan was a parishioner of Christ the King Church and St. Theresa Church. A child of immigrants, he was proud of his Polish heritage. Curious and adventurous, he was an avid traveler. A New Yorker by both birth and disposition, Stan was unwilling to live more than fifty miles from the city and made frequent visits back after moving to the Connecticut suburbs. He was a daily reader of The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, an active investor with a constant eye on the NYSE, a regular theatergoer with subscription tickets to the Roundabout Theater, a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the New York Botanical Garden, and, of course, a lifelong fan of the Yankees.
Visitation is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on the same day at 1:00 p.m. at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Monica Mausoleum, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull.
The Karachuk family deeply appreciates the attentiveness and the many kindnesses of Stan's devoted caretakers in his final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends to consider making a donation in memory of Stanley T. Karachuk to All Hallows High School, c/o Ronald Schutte, President, 111 East 164th Street, Bronx, NY 10452.
