Obituary of Janice Beth Reale

Janice Beth Reale, age 57, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at her home, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of Camille Palmer Reale and the late John Reale. Jan worked in a variety of roles, from child-care worker and physician assistant in the Boston area to health center coordinator in Miami to owner of a photography business and property manager in Maine.  In addition to her varied career, Jan was active in many local, national, and international organizations, raising funds and volunteering for those in need. She was passionate and accomplished photographer, artist, and writer and a dedicated athlete, impressively completing many marathons, triathlons, bike races, and other competitions. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Boston College, a physician assistant certificate from Yale University, and an Education Technician III Certificate from the Maine Department of Education. Above all, Jan was a devoted and loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.

Jan was predeceased by her father, John Reale, in 1985. She is survived by her children, Matthew Reale-Hatem and Olivia Reale-Hatem; her mother, Camille Reale of Trumbull, three brothers, Josh Reale and his wife Isabell and their children, Jonathan and Joshua, of Amsterdam, NY, Mark Reale and his wife Debbie and their son R.J of Trumbull; and Matthew Reale and his companion Diane Hotchkiss of Trumbull.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Janice’s life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Ave, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Preble St. Research Center, 38 Preble St., Portland, ME.
