The other day I found Mike's black and white business card inside a book. There is a sketch of Albert Einstein on it next to the words, "Illustrator, Airbrush Artist." Since I haven't heard from him for fifteen years, I decided to look him up on the internet to see if there was any information about him.
I don't know what to say about Mike's passing--other than to say that I wish I knew him more and I am sorry and I feel terrible for his family and close friends, and I hope someone, somehow gets his art work shown to more people. He had real talent--his chalk drawings were so vivid and detailed, good enough to be hung in a museum.
We used to take weekly hikes together at Lake Mohegan in Fairfield and talk about what was going on with our lives. He really listened to what you had to say. . We also hung out at the Accoustic Cafe in Black Rock a couple of times. He definitely lived the life of an artist... He was just an all around charismatic (and nice) person who felt things deeper than most people...
I am glad I knew him for that short span of time.
This quote sums up what he represented to me:
“There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day, when we seem to see beyond the usual- become clairvoyant. We reach then into reality. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness. Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom. It is in the nature of all people to have these experiences; but in our time and under the conditions of our lives, it is only a rare few who are able to continue in the experience and find expression for it.”

So very sad to hear about Mike's passing. Michael was a sweet, loving, caring person.
I recall having surgery during high school and there he was right by my side to offer his support for me. Michael, I will never forget your beautiful curls in middle school and that great smile. You will forever be in my memories rest in peace.

Dear Mrs. Micinilio, Jim, Greg, Pat and family,
My deepest condolences at this very sad time. I have such fond memories of Mike and the scouting trips, fishing and the times spent at Blackham School during the summer playing ball and having fun in the sun. Mike had such a great sense of humor and wit. If you were lucky enough to be on the inside of his jokes, then you appreciated them so much more. I haven't seen Mike in a very long time but can certainly remember his character and charm as if it where yesterday.
There where times Mike would call me out if the clear blue and say, we're going fishing this morning, do you want to come. Of course I did. The morning usually meant about three o'clock in the morning and we would be riding our bikes from the Northend of Bridgeport all the way to Lake Mohegan in Fairfield all the while our parents would be sleeping and had no idea we were even awake, never mind out fishing. All I can say is the good old days!
To the Micinilio family, please know my thoughts and prayers are with you. To my longtime friend Mike, Rest In Peace buddy!
Sincerely,
Dan Mingay

I am so very sorry to hear about Mike's passing. He and I worked together at Burger King when we were teenagers. A bunch of us became work buddies and all supported one another. Mike was a doll and had a great spirit and a kind heart. I was honored to be his friend. I was so happy to see all of his beautiful artwork that he posted and to see that he followed his passion in the field of art. May he rest in peace and my heart goes out to his entire family.

How can it be, that someone can leave such a wonderful lasting impression, despite my only working with them for a brief time? And how can that person be gone?! The first time I met Michael at Scenic Art Studios/Showmotion in Milford, he was lively, energetic, warm and it really felt like we'd known one another for years. He had that rare ability to be 110% engaged with the project and people, both a man's man and a fun girlfriend in the same talented artist. My condolences to his family and friends; Michael will be missed.

Michael, my dear brother-in-law and friend,
How did we get here? Why are we having to say goodbye to you? It all feels unreal. I still expect to hear you coming through the door and up the basement stairs, ready to head out fishing. Buggy greets you at the top of the stairs with her usual dance as you bend over to give her a good pet. You give me a hello hug and kiss and walk straight over to the counter to see what goodies I’ve baked. I offer you a bag of cookies to take with you, as I’ve made a couple dozen extra just for you as usual. You tell me you are trying to trim down and decline the bag. Instead you reach over and take a few which you start eating immediately. Then you grab a few more “for on the boat.” Later in the evening, after a long day of fishing, you once again reach for several cookies before you had home and with a wink say, “Don’t tell Mrs. M.” Many times this would be repeated the following day.
Dinners won’t be the same without you sitting to my right at our end of the dinner table. We would whisper about your recent crazy experiences which were too colorful for polite dinner table conversation. Many times before dinner you would sneak candy and pass it to me under the corner of the table or put it under the edges of our plates so that we could have a little pre-dinner sweet. Sometimes Mrs. M would catch you and say, “Michael!” and you’d just wink at her and play innocent.
The last few months were devastating to us all. There was nothing we could do but be by your side through it all, doing our best to bring you what comfort we could and showering you with love – talking to you about the things you loved such as the boys’ recent activities or what fish were around, rubbing your shoulders, giving you foot massages, sneaking in tasty food and treats from home, taking you outside for some fresh air, or just sitting next to you holding your hand with the television on one of your favorite movies. All of us were there almost every single day over those three months, and hospital staff would comment that they had never seen so many family members day after day visiting one patient. If only love alone could have cured you, you’d still be here today.
I will cherish that late night Jim and I spent with you a few days before you were gone. You held our hands and looked deep into our eyes for several minutes at a time, not wanting to fall asleep as usual even when we told you that you could take a nap. You gave us an exaggerated grimace when we asked if you wanted the t.v. on Big Bang Theory. And you tried to speak to us several times and did your best Groucho Marx eyebrows when we couldn’t understand your words. You gave us two hours of our Mike, still trying to make us smile even feeling as bad as you did.
Jim and I have cried until our tears were dried up, only to start again a short time later. The only thing that brings some peace is knowing that you are in a better place. There is no more pain and no more sadness. You are doing all those things you loved to do, but the fish are bigger, the colors in your artwork are brighter, the cookies are sweeter, and the choices of craft beer is endless. --- And I think I speak for several of us when I say, the cosmic practical jokes have to stop. We need the lost keys, the glasses, and all those other things that have just oddly disappeared since you left us. --- Always the joker.
God bless, with all my love, Sue

Michael was the first person I met here at Read's, among the original residents to move in and to the same floor. It's hard to believe he's made the journey out of this world and onto the next, taking his artistic mark and creative spirit with him. Blessings over all of you for peace, love and comfort during this unexpected and difficult time. Know that many are praying for you in support and strength.
Rest in peace, Michael. I hope the fish grow bigger there and are plentiful.

I am very sad to learn of Michael's passing from such a distance since I now reside in FL. I've known Michael for about 20 years and have been captured by his beautiful soul. His sensitivity and kindness made him exceptional. He had many talents, artistically and personally. Michael would attentively listen, then engage and his insight or advice was always valuable. His smile and laughter always brightened the room and my spirits. To his family I send my deepest condolences. I know his love for his family leaves a huge sense of loss and I am so very sorry. RIP Michael, I will miss you here and pray to meet your spirit again.
