Obituary of Gene E. Smith

Gene E. Smith, age 85, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 22, 2021 in his home in Sunapee, NH surrounded by family. Gene was born in Stratford, CT on May 27, 1935 to the late Murvin and Aletta Francesky Smith.

Gene is survived by his son William and his wife Susan of Sunapee, NH; son Scott Smith of Freemont, CA; Grandchildren Dee Anne, Dylan, Adrien, Ronin, and Coltrane Smith and several nieces and nephews. Gene is predeceased by his wife Bonnie Bissenden Smith.

Gene was a retired Engineering Data Specialist from Avco Lycoming in Stratford, CT. Before moving to NH with his son in 2000, he was as an active member of Jessie Lee Methodist Church in Easton and part of the choir. He loved theatre and coordinated lighting for the Chapel Street Players in Stratford, CT. Gene confided in his hospice team that he would memorize all the lines in case he had to step in one night. Gene was a Boy Scout troop leader in both CT and NH. He loved the outdoors, gardening, and trains.

A graveside mass and burial will be held on Thursday January 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. directly in Union Cemetery, 23 Temple Court, Stratford, CT.
