Obituary of Joseph I. Magnano
Joseph I. Magnano, 84, husband of Eleanor Mays Magnano of Stratford, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Middletown, CT on January 5, 1937, he was a son of the late Averino and Giuseppina (Augeri) Magnano and was a longtime resident of Stratford.
After graduating from Middletown High School, class of 1954, Joe joined the United States Air Force, to proudly serve his country. He was stationed in Japan for two years, and was also on the USAF swim team in Hawaii. Prior to his retirement he worked as a paper converting technician for many years. He was a 50 year dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church in Stratford, where he was a member of the bingo staff, the Men's Club, and the St. Matthew's Guild. He ran the spotlight for many years for the "OLG Cabaret Players". He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle and will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Eleanor of 58 years, survivors include three loving children, Mark Magnano and Michael Magnano both of CA, Julie Magnano of Trumbull, a brother, Santino Magnano (MaryAnn) of Middletown, four cherished grandchildren, Maya, Ana, & Lia Pepin, Michael Joseph Magnano and one great-grandson, Joseph Robert Magnano. He is also survived by three nieces, Linda, Maria (Rob), and Lorraine (Gregg)and one nephew, Santy (Lisa), many cousins, his brother-in-law, Lewis Mays (Beverly) and sisters-in-law, Elisabeth Schieman (Robert) and Phyllis Baboval. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Mary Bartolotta and her husband Joseph, and by his cherished granddaughter, Jacquelyn Kate Magnano.
A walk-through visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT 06611. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects, and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford. Interment with full military honors will take place at the CT State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
