Obituary of Keith J. Scala
Keith Scala of Shelton, age 64, beloved husband of Yulan Ma, passed unexpectedly on Monday June 28th, 2021. He was born on January 5th, 1957. Keith graduated from Fairfield Warde High School and Butler Business School. He was dedicated to his life's work as a successful Insurance Broker as President/Owner of Scala, Clark & Minogue Insurance.
Keith had several passions and was well respected among his peers. Keith was a sports car enthusiast specializing in Autocross racing for over 40 years. Keith enjoyed teaching competitive driving skills to his nieces Victoria and JoAnna and his nephew Robert. As an active member and past President of the Sport Car Club of Fairfield County, he competed locally and nationally. Keith was the 1985 National Champion in his class, and finished 4th in 1984 and 1985 driving a modified Mazda RX-7. Keith finished 1st in Autocross competition, driving his newly acquired "Dream Car", held in Connecticut on Sunday June 27th, 2021.
Keith also had a passion for Space exploration beginning in the 1960's as he closely studied and monitored all Gemini and Apollo manned space flights. He attended numerous rocket launches at Cape Canaveral, Florida and was recognized on a National level as he authored several articles appearing in 1991 and 1994 in Space Flight and Quest publications. For many years, Keith traveled to collect Space books at "out of the way-off the beaten path" book shops across the USA. Keith was also dedicated to raising his Welsh Terriers, Rocket and Astro.
All who knew Keith, could easily see how truly happy he was spending time with his wife Yulan.
Keith, son of late Joseph E. Scala, Sr. of Fairfield, is survived by his beloved wife Yulan, mother Barbara Scala-Adams of Branford, brother Ken and Sherry Scala of Newtown, sister Barbara Scala of Westbrook, niece JoAnna and Michael Madden of Washington DC, nephew Dr. Robert Suriani, Jr. of West Hartford and niece Victoria Scala of Newtown.
A walk-through visitation will take place on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 4 – 7 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT 06611. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects, and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building. Friends are invited to meet directly in Oak Lawn Cemetery, 1530 Bronson Rd., Fairfield on Friday at 11:00 a.m. for a graveside service.
