I had the pleasure of helping to take care of DJ in the hospital numerous times. He quickly became one of my favorite patients. He was a smart, funny, caring, and interesting person. His love of "elevators" was one of the most endearing things about him to me. There were so many things to like about DJ. I am truly sorry and offer my condolences to the entire family and to DJ's many friends and aquantainces. He was and angel on Earth! I miss him and will miss his family!

The Wooster Family and The Nelson Family has lost a friend. In his short time on Earth he has taught both families humanity, grace, honestly and patience. He also taught us about elevators and Mary Kate and Ashley. The best memory is when he wrote, produced, directed , invited guests, and hand made his own puppets in his puppet show. Both families were there to see the performance. I will always and love this boy. DJSTRONG

Dj, I will miss you like no one else. You brightened up every Friday after Thanksgiving for many years. It was always my favorite day at work, especially the day you got to come into my shop and see the office! Have a great ride up and keep an eye out for me! See you on the next journey and save me a seat in your big red Kenworth honk honk!

Dear DJ, it was such a priviledge to care for you and to get to know you a bit during the end of your journey with us. You inspired us all with your infectious dry humor and your generous spirit even in the most challenging of circumstances. You taught us to look for beauty in the most unexpected of places. I attach 2 photos of an elevator you raved about: the one going to the PET center. It was one that I had taken hundreds of times but never previously noticed...only you could take the news of an upcoming scan as an opportunity for a moment of joy. We are much the richer for having spent time with you these last months. May you have many marvelous elevator rides in heaven...

DJ was the highlight of my day working as his physical therapist for several years. He brought nothing but joy and hard work to our PT sessions. I will greatly miss his conversations always. We used to go out to the tennis courts and do workouts. DJ was the hardest worker I know. He was always always asking about my family. Instead of worrying about school or anything else he ALWAYS asked how my family was doing. He remembered the names of my children and always asked about them before anything else. He was a joy to say the very least. I will miss him so much.

DJ was a wonderful young man who will always hold a special place in our hearts. I will miss him, our conversations and I will think about him every time I step in an elevator or hear a starting gun at a track meet. The crew will miss you.

DJ wasn’t just a friend of mine, he was an
amazing soul. There aren’t really any words i can say to describe DJ, because he exceeds all of them. DJ had an amazing heart. I loved spending time with him, he just brought light to the room that i have never seen before. I know all of the stratford high staff and students are so sad to see him pass, as i’m sure i am.

DJ made ESY enjoyable each and every day. The summer we worked together is one I will never forget. We talked about elevators, played the “line game” in the gym, and shared many more memories I will remember forever. His constant positivity and upbeat attitude was a breath of fresh air. You will be missed buddy.

I am so very sorry for and heartbroken for your loss. I first got to know DJ as his CCD teacher at St Catherine’s. I had the privilege of helping to guide and prepare him for his sacraments, right through confirmation. He was so brave. He would tell me how nervous he was, but we would talk and practice and he always stood up to the task, as we prayed for him and held our breath. Then tears for how proud of him we were. He was the highlight of my afternoon. His smile and friendly greeting would wash my cares away. I loved hearing about his elevator escapades and talking about where in town I’ve been, and he would describe the elevator in that building. It was amazing.
It’s been some time since I’ve seen or spoken to him, but he will forever remain in my heart as a true example of how we should live. Vulnerable, bright, curious and courageous. And kind. Always kind. He always showed up as himself…the beautiful child that God created him to be.
DJ, you will be missed but never forgotten. Though you are no longer on this earth, your light will forever shine in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege to know you. Rest In Peace my friend. I know you are safe in the arms of Jesus.
Love, Mrs. Chistoni.
