Obituary of Nova Lorch
Kris Hastings Lorch, age 73, of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Frederick Walter Lorch, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2022, with her devoted daughters by her side. Born in Los Angeles, California, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Flint Reed. Kris was an avid quilter, loved to garden and was a staunch supporter of conservation and helping animals. She loved having a weekly dinner and movie night with her daughters and loved to shop for plants and fabric. As President, Kris operated Alloy Engineering, a manufacturing company in Bridgeport, along with her husband and daughter Sabrina for many years.
One of the most important things to Kris was giving back to the community. She did this in a variety of ways but most notably by serving on the boards of the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, The Metal Manufacturers Education and Training Alliance, Manufacture CT, the Connecticut Manufacturers Collaborative, and the Housatonic Community College's Industry Advisory Board, where she was instrumental in getting the Advanced Manufacturing Center established. She was a founding member of the New Haven Manufacturing Association and the Materials & Manufacturing Summer Institute program. She spent three days every summer helping STEM teachers in the Comprehensive High School system learn about how the subjects they teach are used every day in manufacturing plants. She served on the Industry Advisory Boards for the Manufacturing Tech programs at Platt Tech, Emmett O'Brien, Bullard Havens, and Eli Whitney. In 2015 Kris won the American Manufacturing Hall of Fame Leadership Award along with her friend Kathy Saint.
Survivors include her two loving daughters, Kathryn Hastings and Sabrina Lorch, a brother, Ronald Reed and his wife Jane, the Lorch family, and her beloved dogs. A memorial service will be held in June to celebrate the lives of both Kris and Fred.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to The Humane Society or The Nature Conservancy - two organizations that were close to Kris' heart. Arrangements entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT.
