Obituary of Audrey Louise Brady
Audrey Louise Blair Brady, beloved widow of the late Hugh Robert Brady and precious mother of Maura Colleen and Kara Joy, passed into spirit on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on September 24, 1930, the daughter of Myrtle Briggs Blair and Joseph Edward Blair, she graduated from St. Augustine's School, Central High School in Bridgeport, and Katherine Gibbs School in New York. She married Hugh R. (Bob) Brady in 1950, and they took up residence in Bridgeport and then Trumbull prior to residing on base in San Antonio, TX while serving their country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Audrey worked for American Mutual Insurance Company before she and Bob realized their dream of becoming parents with the birth of their daughter, Maura in 1959. The family moved to Fairfield, CT in 1962, and was made complete by the birth of their daughter Kara in 1964. Many happy times ensued, creating fond memories that will last beyond time. Audrey cherished being a mother and was very involved in her children's activities, serving on the PTA, as a lunch mother, and in a variety of volunteer roles within the school district and the community. Together with friends, she created a Girl Scout troop so that their daughters' dreams of participating in scouting could be realized. She enthusiastically encouraged her children's various interests throughout the years, ever present with helping, loving, heart and hands. Audrey fervently wished that today's mothers had the opportunity to be at home with their children during the children's early years, as she so truly enjoyed this time with her children while they were very small. She loved gardening, and she also created beautifully designed homes with her amazing talent for interior design. A gifted cook, she delighted in creating sumptuous meals for family and friends. She also enjoyed raising and caring for a menagerie of family pets over the years, and was skilled in sewing and crocheting. She loved to swim and was also an avid reader, and she read to her children and grandchildren from infancy. Audrey and Bob traveled the world together and resided in Europe for three years prior to Bob's retirement in 1995. They returned home to CT shortly thereafter and lived there together with their chocolate lab, Lucky, until Bob's passing in 2018.
Audrey is survived by daughters Maura C. Brady, MA, CDMS of Olympia, Washington and Dr. Kara J. Brady, Ed.D., of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, granddaughters Stephanie (Amanda) and Sabryna, sister Kathy Kelly Annicelli, sister-in-law June Bergman Kelly, and niece Lorraine Castelot whom she and Bob loved like a daughter, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bob, her sister Shirley, brother Charles, and sister, Patricia Kelly-White.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to mom's outstanding Caregiver Gina Boyd, Care Coordinator Nadine, and Agency Owner Susan Oderwald of Always Best Care. Your gentle, expert, and loving care have meant the world to mom and to us. Thank you.
As we deeply mourn mom's passing, we recognize that a life lived with such love, courage, generosity, and grace, a life devoted to service and to the nurturance of others, must, indeed, be celebrated with joy and gratitude. You are with us always … in every breath, every breeze, every flower, every sunrise.
… the rose still grows…
You are loved forever and for always … with all our hearts!
