Obituary of Joan P. Guerrera
Joan (Pernatozzi) Guerrera, age 82, of Stratford passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony M. Guerrera. Born in Waterbury on May 31, 1940 she was the daughter of the late John and Theresa (Pettinicchi) Pernatozzi. Mrs. Guerrera was proud to have earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from St. Joseph College before beginning her working career at Naugatuck Chemical. After her time at Naugatuck Chemical, Mrs. Guerrera devoted her time to raising her family before eventually returning to the work force as a financial secretary with the Stratford Public School System for many years. Joan was a woman of great faith, which was evident as a longtime parishioner of St. Mark’s Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and also served as a Eucharistic Minister. She looked forward to her regular get togethers with the Ladies Bridge Group, where she built many lasting friendships. She took great joy in sharing her incredible home cooked meals with friends and family, and was a selfless person who always sought to make those around her happy and comfortable. Her greatest enjoyment was being surrounded by her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend of many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her two loving children, Mark Guerrera and his wife Joanne of Arlington, VA and Lisanne Dunkel and her husband Joel of Stratford, five cherished grandchildren, Sam, Zachary, Madelyn, Anthony and Eleni; her sister-in-law, Patricia Pray and her husband Pete “Leo” of Shelton, her brothers-in-law, Anthony Buccitti of Waterbury and Richard Vitale of Stratford, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
