Obituary of Dorothy M. Longo
Dorothy Arsenault Longo, age 91, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late John "Babe" Longo, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022. Born in Bridgeport on February 24, 1931, Dottie was the daughter of the late Avit and Marie Gallant Arsenault and a longtime resident of Stratford. She graduated from Harding High School, class of 1949.
Dottie was a truly devoted wife and mother throughout her life. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Babe for 66 years. And although she held a few part time jobs in her day, Dottie's full-time passion was being the most wonderful mother her two sons could ever ask for.
Dottie grew up on Maple St in Bridgeport, where she was the youngest of 12 children. She was closest in age to her sister and best friend Rita, who was only 16 months older than her. They were often mistaken for twins, especially when they were dressed in matching outfits hand made by their mother.
Dottie loved spending time with her extensive family and her many long-time friends. She and Babe hosted many memorable pool parties at their house in Stratford. Dottie was an avid reader of novels and loved crossword puzzles. She did the crossword puzzle in the CT Post every morning, often completing them.
Dottie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include two loving sons, John Longo and his wife Darlene of Stratford and Michael Longo and his wife Laura of York, Pa, six grandchildren, Tracy Burke (Steve), John Longo III, Lisa Delco (Paul), Katie Bria (Jonathan), Michele Longo (Chris) and James Longo and 18 great grandchildren, a sister, Edna Burby, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including a cherished niece, Judy DeLorenzo. Dorothy was predeceased by her 9 brothers and her sister, Rita.
The family would also like to thank the talented and dedicated staff of The Jewish Home for the Elderly, specifically all the staff assigned to Siebert House.
Friends are invited to meet directly in Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford, on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial.
