Obituary of Carlos A. Bento

Carlos Alberto Ribeiro Bento of Fairfield, CT, 81, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his daughters Olivia Bento Hanifin & Nancy Bento Vendetto. He is survived by his two daughters aforementioned, his two son-in-laws Michael Hanifin & Mark Vendetto & his 3 fur grand babies. He is also survived by his sister Idalina Bento, his very special sister-in-law Myrna Bento as well as his favorite nieces Janet Walker & Jennifer Greatsinger. He was pre-deceased by his parents Francisco Bento & Maria Bento, his two brothers, and his sister.

Born in rural Alcobaca, Portugal Carlos worked tirelessly through many great feats, one of which includes valiantly serving in the Portugal-Angola war as a very young adult. Carlos didn’t come from much but always dreamed big from a young age. Being as motivated and determined as they come, he decided to immigrate to the USA in 1970, without speaking a word of English.

Carlos worked hard to build a life for himself, and more importantly his daughters. He began his career selling furniture at Sears & Roebuck Co., & while there quickly set his horizons on something more! He was fluent in English in no time— rendering him now trilingual. He then obtained a real estate license, became a broker, and opened his own business— all while earning several prestigious career awards along the way! After gaining firsthand knowledge of the immigration experience, being the kind and altruistic man he was, he was quick to help multiple family members & friends immigrate to the United States over the years.

Carlos embodied charisma & personality— he made friends everywhere and brought joy and laughter to those around him every single day of his life. He was HANDSOME, “the life of the party”, funny, witty and he loved a good joke or prank— Carlos would do anything to make you smile! He was extremely well-known in Fairfield County so if you spoke Portuguese and lived in Fairfield County— he probably sold you a house!

Carlos will always be remembered as the sweetest, most supremely loving & extremely doting father who absolutely cherished his daughters. His strength and perseverance were unmatched and will forever serve as inspiration for his loved ones who remain here on Earth. He will be so incredibly missed in every sense of the word. His family will forever strive to carry on his legacy of love, laughter, & strength in his eternal honor. Services were private per his wishes.
