Obituary of Joseph P. Mercurio

Joseph P. Mercurio, age 92, of Startford passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Vivian T. (Cupole) Mercurio. Born in Bridgeport on July 30, 1931, he was a son of the late Dominick and Nancy (Matricia) Mercurio. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Mercurio later worked as a plumber for various local companies for many years before his retirement. Joseph was an avid golfer and enjoyed following NASCAR racing. He was meticulous in tending to his gardens and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family. He also found great enjoyment traveling the world with his wife Vivian. His greatest enjoyment however was found in the time he spent surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving children, Nancy Faiella and her husband Salvatore of Shelton, Daniel Mercurio and his wife Karen of Meriden and Joseph Garofano and his wife Carol of Stuart, FL, his cherished grandchildren, Salvatore Faiella IV, Joseph Faiella, Gabriella Garofano, Daniel Mercurio Jr, and Lindsey Mercurio, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Vivian of 56 years, he was also predeceased by his sister, Frances Markovich and his brother, Peter J. Mercurio.
