Obituary of Jose R. Monteiro

José Rodrigues Monteiro, age 59, of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, 10 September 2023 at Bridgeport Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after fighting a courageous eight-month battle with esophageal cancer. Known lovingly as "Zé" by family and friends, he made a lasting impact on all and will be dearly missed. Zé was born in Ardãos, Portugal, on 19 March 1964 to the late Domingos Miguel Monteiro and Izabel Pereira Rodrigues Monteiro.

He immigrated to the Unites States in 1985. He was married to his loving wife Maria Rosalina Veríssimo Paiva Monteiro for 40 years, and they raised their two children Miguel and Stephanie in Bridgeport, CT. Zé was a hardworking man and spent most of his career in the pool building business where he was considered one of the best concrete pumping specialists. He appreciated simple things in life. He found great pleasure in watching soccer games with his friends. He was a devoted and proud fan of F. C. Porto and enjoyed the club's many successes. The family would like to send a warm thank you to the Smilow Cancer Care Center in Trumbull and the Bridgeport Hospital staff for the exceptional attention, care, comfort and support provided to Zé and his family.

He is survived by his mother Izabel Pereira Rodrigues Monteiro from Portugal and was predeceased by his father Domingos Miguel Monteiro. In addition to the many family and dear friends that he leaves behind to cherish his memory, Zé will be missed the most by his lovely grandson Thomas, his nurturing and loving wife, Maria Rosalina Veríssimo Paiva Monteiro; his son Miguel P. Monteiro and wife Amélia, and daughter Stephanie P. Monteiro; brothers Arthur R. Monteiro and wife Joaquina from Bridgeport, and Miguel R. Monteiro from Portugal; brothers-in-law João Veríssimo Paiva and wife Lina from Monroe, and António Veríssimo Paiva from Newark, NJ; cherished nieces and nephews Christina Monteiro and husband Tom from California, Paulo Jorge Monteiro and wife Cláudia from Switzerland, Hugo Paiva and wife Anabelle from Verona, NJ, and Melanie Paiva from Newark, NJ; godson Alexandre from France.

A Mass of Christian Burial be celebrated on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
