Obituary of Bernadette V. Engelman

Bernadette V. Dorn Engelman, age 90, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Cambridge Manor in Fairfield. She was the beloved wife of the late Wayne Engelman. Born in Kiel, Wisconsin on January 1, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Bernadine (Walsdorf) Dorn and was a longtime resident of Trumbull.

Bernadette grew up on a farm in Kiel, Wisconsin where she graduated from Kiel High School in 1952 and the Sheboygan Normal School in 1954. She met the love of her life, Wayne, they married and eventually moved to Trumbull to raise their children. She became very much involved in the community and was devoted to giving back to those in need. Over the years she fostered 38 children through her home and made a huge impact on many children's lives. She was a woman of great faith and was very devout to God and made religion an important part of her life. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, she loved being around her family and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her five children, Sharon Geimer, MD (Steve), Kevin Engelman (Caryn), Gerilyn Pinnow (Nathan), Ann Card and Fred Engelman (Donna), two brothers, Patrick Dorn (Francine) and Peter Dorn and three sisters, Patsy Dorn, Sr. Marie Bernadette Dorn and Sr. Lucy Dorn, nine grandchildren, Jami, Matthew, Brian, Laura, Luke, Emma, Alex, Ashley and Taylor and six great grandchildren, Henry, Claire, Cece, Logan, Owen and Sofia as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Paula Engelman, a brother, James Dorn and a sister, Jane Salm. The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for the compassionate care they provided and her devoted caretakers at Cambridge Manor for the excellent care they gave to Bernadette during her stay there, especially Audrey, Maria and Carrie.
