Obituary of George H. Lewis

Resident of Stratford George H. Lewis, age 83, of Stratford, a retired chemical engineer for Exxon, died on Friday, April 11, 2008 in Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Hartford on August 28, 1924, he was a son of the late Harold and Florence Kowarsky Lewis. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War and a Silver Star recipient. He received a degree in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a Masters Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served on the Board of Directors of the U. S. Naval Academy Foreign Affairs Conference and was on the Board of Governors of the International Peace Academy in New York. He was also a member of the Stratford Republican Town Committee and served as the Vice President of the Oronoque Village Mens Club and was awarded their Man of the Year Award in 2006. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Frances Herthum Lewis, four children, Leesa Heath and her husband Steve of West Hartford, Lori Lewis of Hawaii, Lance Edward Lewis and his partner David Dunn of San Francisco, CA and George Lane Lewis and his wife Saradha Boopathi of New York City, two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Lewis of Jacksonville, FL and Vera Herthum of Baton Rouge, LA, three grandchildren, Erin Heath of Boston, MA, Kristin Heath and Michael Lewis, both of New York City, nieces and nephews, Mary Claire Major of Baton Rouge, LA, Louis Whitney Herthum of Santa Monica, CA, Scott Lewis and his wife Billie Goldstein of Pembroke Pines, FL and Leslie and Rick Kirkwood and their children, Sarah and Jason Kirkwood, all of Jacksonville, FL. He was pre-deceased by his brother David Lewis. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mark Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
